Life with Mercy Road Church…

A lot has been changing for our family and the Mercy Road family this past summer. In my last update I informed you that Pastor Jed Haas and his family were moving to Arizona where he can better address his health issues. This move has taken place and we miss the Haas family very much.

I remain on board to provide pastoral leadership to MRC…with the help of many awesome people here! The picture to the right is a group of couples (a few weren’t there for the pic) that we are spending time with to build community. Heidi is also in a discipling huddle with several women and she loves sharing with them, teaching, and just hanging out as their families are the next generation of leaders in the local church.

We are introducing “Discipling Is Relationships” in November. This will be an all-church campaign to empower our people to learn how to be disciples and fishers of men. We look forward to welcoming our friends from Cadre Ministries to join us on this new journey together as a church. Meanwhile, I continue to lead worship, preach, work with other worship leaders and ministry leaders, provide administrative leadership, invest time with our pastoral intern, Matt, and do other necessary things to keep MRC moving forward. It’s my desire to create a culture of empowering regular people to do ministry together for the kingdom (Eph 4:11-12).

Our vision at Mercy Road remains the same. We want to see every neighborhood in the Fox Valley reached with the transforming truth of the gospel; doing this “one person, one family, one neighborhood, and one city at a time…under one God of all time.” If there is ever a time to be planting new churches to reach people it is now! As we grow and make adjustments our vision and mission stays the same, we simply use different tools to get there. So, as a young church plant in transition we continue to pray for God’s direction as we make important choices for our church family, with the hopeful expectation that our community will be impacted in great ways because of Jesus.

Last weekend I celebrated my 50th birthday with my family in Chicago. We enjoyed Millennium Park and pizza at Gino’s East. We’ve always had fun in Chicago, but I have to say, “go Pack”!

Heidi is working a couple of part-time jobs. She spends two days a week at a B&B / Alpaca farm and enjoys the variety that job has to offer. She also started working for MedStat delivering medical supplies in the area.

I completed a year-long Personal Vision Cohort with Will Mancini. I had the privilege of learning with a dozen other pastors from across North America. It was a great time of clarity in my personal life and vocational efforts.

Our house is still on the market. We are exploring the option of renting but hopeful that something will happen soon before our contract expires with our real estate agent.

I’ve been encouraged by the following passage from Ephesians 3:10 lately as I think about the joys and responsibilities of being a church-planting pastor. God uses the church for some amazing things and I’m glad to be part of that plan!

that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be
made known to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places.

Thank you for your support. Here is how you can pray for us:

  • Brian to be humble and effective in leadership during transition for MRC
  • Heidi to have stamina while juggling jobs
  • Megan to finish strong in her senior year at Appleton North High School
  • Erin to have a great year at Illinois State University
  • Andi & Andrew to grow in their marriage
  • Lastly, continued clarity and direction for Mercy Road Church

  1. Brian, we continue to pray for you and your family and for your ministry. We also pray that God will send someone to buy your house and that everything you do will be Christ centered.
